Escape to the theme
In the 2016 edition, more than 46 thousand candidates took low notes or zeroed in the writing for evading the proposed theme. The proposal of the writing of the essay has one theme and three texts related to it, that serve as text of support or reference.
Try to study on various subjects, be within the local news, national and international, to understand new concepts. Thus, your chances of understanding the subject’s proposal and knowing how to lecture on it become greater.
First, read the supporting texts; then identify the problem; then highlight it, and then offer solutions by relating them to the arguments you presented earlier.
Use of long periods
The longer the sentences or sentences, the greater the chances of errors and lack of textual cohesion. This is because long phrases make text comprehension difficult and suggest errors in verbal and nominal agreement.
Prefer shorter, easy-to-understand sentences with a maximum of 20 words.
Lack of verbal agreement
Generally, the candidate makes the agreement of the verb with the word consecutive to it. To avoid this error, remember that the verb must agree with the core of the subject.
Incorrect use of the pronoun “where”
The word “where” may be an interrogative adverb of place, but there are some situations in which it appears as a relative pronoun. The pronoun “where” can only be used when there is indication of physical location. If this is not the case, substitute “in what” or “in which”.
Slang and colloquial expressions
One of the skills of writing is to assess the candidate’s ability to write. For this, the use of slang and colloquial expressions are not adequate to the standard of the cultured norm. Replace them with formal expressions with similar meaning. Also avoid orality marks, such as “tá” and “né”.
Wrong use of the verb haver
The verb haver must be used when the meaning is “to exist.” This verb remains in the first person singular, because it has no subject. It is necessary to have attention to the use of the verb to be, different from the expression “to see” that means “to have relation to something”.
Use of concluding expressions
The conclusion should be brief, contain a paragraph and resume the main idea of the text. That is: it has to be a synthesis of everything that has been presented. Under no circumstances should you present a new idea at the end of the text.
It should also be avoided to end the essay with expressions such as “To conclude” or “To conclude”.
