It seems you have not yet started around on Lightroom 5.

I have certainly seen some of the more powerful features of Lightroom, but until I upgraded from 4.5.7 to 5.0 I have not seen how the Export workflow is improved. I have also not experienced how the new “smart previews” make the workflow faster. I like the multi-threading, I like that it uses the CPU and GPU to speed up loading.
It seems that the new “Streaming” and the draft feature are the main improvements. This seems to be very complex code in the beginning, and might not be stable. It might be a good idea to leave a release for a year to proof what you have, and see where the stability is. I would love to try this software, but if it is not stable it might be better to wait.

you saved a lot of time by waiting for the final varient and a better innards. To the point that more functions are redundant or optional. I would like to go back to 5.0 and try out with that version, if not 5.2. 128MB Ram is not enough for it. But i’m not crazy about 5.2 apart from it’s ability to edit DVD’s. Great review, just the right length. The interface is a little overwhelming for beginner hands but you learn quickly. I was able to make a fairly cool looking HDRI out of a photo I captured this summer. It is one of my highest performing shots ever, 36 stops bracketed into 8, and the atmosphere pin-point the moment. I highly recommend culling out the highlights in layers then letting the exposure fade. This is the one hidden advantage of RGB data over.jpeg, you can easily bring the highlights up and make them brighter than the shadows, or darken the shadows. A second advantage is the functionality to edit individual tryps (cropos), which I can’t wait to try out. The GIMP has been around for years, the learning curve is steep, yet windowing is so much easier. So Adobe, it seems Lightroom is getting big brothers, is this the line of follow up software for GIMP 😉
